If you are planning to hike in the High Peaks Region of the Adirondacks, then Keene, NY is the place to be! I took the opportunity to stay at a rustic AirBNB cabin in the heart of Keene over Easter Weekend, called The Perch Keene. You may remember a few months back when I stayed at a place called The Loft Keene. These two properties are offered by the same owner, and are actually right next to each other! Since I loved The Loft Keene so much, I thought it would be a good idea to try out a different place, and The Perch Keene was just as enjoyable. Here are some of the things I loved:
🏔 LOCATION: Keene is a very central location for hikers looking to hike in all the popular and classic Adirondack locations. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking to hike the 46 High Peaks or if you’re looking to do something easier, The Perch’s location in the heart of Keene puts you within 10-15 minutes of most trailhead parking lots, plus you’re within walking distance (or very short driving distance) of quite a few local shops and restaurants.
🌲 VIBE: Think: modern renovation meets traditional Adirondack rustic design. This place was SO cute with a lot of attention to detail for the design. The materials used in the decor were all locally sourced and the custom woodwork was done by local craftsmen. I was obsessed with the woodwork, especially the table made from a tree trunk slice with a live edge, the spiral staircase with branchwork along the sides, and the shelving and counters.
I’m also a fan of well lit spaces and this space had captivating, unique window features. The big front window in the master bedroom was a beautiful sight to see, and there were several skylights allowing a lot of natural light into the space.
I had a chance to talk to the owners, and they mentioned that the big clawfoot bathtub in the bathroom was an item they found behind the house. They completely restored the over-100-year-old piece back to its original grandeur. I think that’s such a cool story and the fact that they were able to give an old item new life.
👍 CONVENIENCE: This fully furnished and functional AirBNB has everything you could need for a length of any stay, and then some. I specifically appreciated the full kitchen because I like to cook my own meals if possible while traveling. All the tools I needed for cooking were already there, all I needed to bring was the food! But even if I had forgotten something, the cupboards contain some typically forgotten-but-needed items including items from local vendors and businesses. The same thing with the bathroom – there was soap, shampoo and epsom salt available, and even a candle in the lantern next to the bathtub in case you wanted to take a candle-lit bath to relax after a hike.
There is an office space in the master bedroom with a wooden desk and an extra computer screen that you can connect your computer to, plus great WIFI access and a smart TV with streaming apps for late nights and rainy days.
🧼 CLEANLINESS: I appreciated the dedication to cleanliness – the place was immaculate when we walked in – floors, counters, refrigerator, bathrooms, bedrooms, everything. Not much more to say here – either a place is clean or it isn’t….and The Perch definitely WAS!
👍 CUSTOMER SERVICE: The owners were very friendly and helpful through the whole experience. They were responsive during the booking process and provided great instructions for the day of check-in and anything I needed to know. They were also excited to share some background information about the Perch and their other lodging options – it’s always nice to learn more about the backstory behind the people and places that you visit.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at The Perch! Another recommended stay for my fellow hikers in the Adirondacks.
