NY Lodging Review: Grayhaven Motel

The Grayhaven Motel is a unique lodging property in Ithaca, NY. Originally established in 1919, this historic property has been renovated in the last couple of years to its former glory, with a fun, retro vibe, and comfortable, sustainable amenities. Nestled between two iconic state parks, and just outside of the city of Ithaca, the Grayhaven Motel is in the perfect location for hikers to take advantage of the outdoorsy opportunities in the area.

The Grayhaven Motel was set up with the outdoorsy folks in mind, with hiking trails right on the property, an outdoor fire pit with cozy Adirondack chairs, an outdoor run for pets, and an area filled with fun lawn games and lounge chairs. We got a chance to check out some of the trail and hope to come back during nicer weather so we can take advantage of the outdoor fire pit!

Our stay was great. We stayed in the Treman Lodge King and I loved the decor and vibe in that room. I really loved the giant window overlooking a bird feeder just outside, with a view of the woods behind the building.  There was plenty of space for all of our luggage and items, and space to move around easily. I also loved the books about birds that were on-hand right in the room.

The bed was really comfortable which is always a huge plus for me, I’m the sleeping queen! The bathrooms were sparkling clean and looked nice and modern.

I also really appreciated the efforts toward sustainability. I learned that the owners are using as many of the original items as possible and as they wear out, they are committed to purchasing new amenities from local and sustainable sources, and in the bathroom they have refillable toiletry bottles, among so many other conservation measures.

The customer service was great, as I was kept informed at every stage of booking and checking in via e-mail and text message. The check-in process was completely contactless, but I always had helpful information at my fingertips and the ability to reach out with questions at any time.
